James and Shirley McLean purchased purchased an old farm in 1973 for recreation - hiking, picking berries, and watching wildlife. Since then, they created trails, added more acres, built bird nest boxes, and planted fields with native wildflowers and grasses. Now at 120 acres, they became a non-profit organization, put a conservation easement on the land with the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy, and turned the home into a nature center for meetings and classes. The McLean's invited us to visit and learn how they manage this preserve.  We will meet at the Midland Mall at 6:00 pm to carpool to the site. RSVP to Jeanne Henderson 989-225-0059 so we know who is coming. Plan to walk a few miles.

Wild Ones helps preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities. For more information, please contact Jeanne Henderson at 989.631.0830 or jhenderson@chippewanaturecenter.org.
